The Scandi - tiny home in Berlin, Ohio

The Scandi is a tiny home located in Berlin, Ohio owned by Kevin & Liz of Tiny Stays Berlin. The Scandinavian design inspiration is evident in the simple lines, light spaces, pale wood, leather, and glass. I really liked the leather handles on the kitchen cabinets. This tiny home also includes a private outdoor sauna, ice barrel and firepit area for you to use.

Once you arrive and park your car, you'll walk down a wooded path. Along the way, you will pass your private outdoor sauna, ice barrel and firepit area. Even though there is another tiny home on the property, this walk through the woods, listening to the birds, makes you feel like you have your own private sanctuary.

The Scandi is 24’ long and 8.5’ wide. With 12' tall ceilings and large windows on all sides give you a sense of being in a large space surrounded by nature. The exterior of the tiny home is covered in black metal siding with wood accents. A deck runs the length of the home expanding your living space by providing another seating area to enjoy your surroundings.

As you come inside, you enter the main living area. The sofa is a comfortable place to curl up and watch a movie on the big television screen.

The black cabinets of the kitchenette contain plates, silverware, pots, pans, etc. The sink with a pull-down spray faucet, looks out a window at the grass and wooded area that surround the tiny home. There is plenty of counter space to prepare food and also houses the coffee bar. The open wood shelving house your dishes and glasses.

Across from the kitchenette, there is a place to sit and eat that looks out of a large picture window toward the natural, wooded area surrounding the firepit and sauna.

The bathroom is located just past the kitchenette. There is a combination washer and dryer, a toilet, a corner shower and a sink. The grey towels can also be taken outside when you use the sauna. If you forget any of your toiletries, there are some provided.

The stairs take you up to the sleeping loft. There is a walkway around two sides of the raised platform that houses the queen size bed, allowing you to stand up beside the bed. The two windows and skylight above the bed give the loft a very open feeling. Behind the pillows on the bed, you will find a storage area with a hinged lid, a shelf and outlets to plug in your phone. They also leave bathrobes for you on the bed.

The Scandi features:

  • 1 Queen sized bed and a pull-out sofa bed

The Scandi is located near the heart of Ohio's Amish Country. There are so many things to see and do. Here are a few of my recommendations:

  • Walnut Creek Cheese - less touristy and usually where I do my grocery shopping, especially there jellies & jams

  • Red Mug Coffee Company - had Chi Tea & Cinnamon Roll, they were delicious!

  • Secret Garden - This place is amazing! It is like walking into a fantasy world

  • Sheiyah Market - large complex of buildings housing shopping with something for everyone

  • Tis the Season - Ohio's largest Christmas store & definitely worth the trip

  • Coblentz Chocolates - what else is there to say....Chocolate!

  • Heini’s Cheese Chalet - not only do they have cheese but spices, honey, meats, etc. They have cheese fudge which is quite good. Don't forget to check out the cheese ends section, you can find some good deals there.

  • Hershberger’s Farm & Bakery - brought home fresh vegetables, homemade pasta and cherry cider from here. They also have a petting area if you want to check out the farm animals.

  • Open Air Art Museum - I happened upon this place in looking for things to do. It is on the property of the Inn at Honey Run. There are several trail at the inn that wind through through the trees and meadows. I was able to see some of the installations but a lot of them towards the back had been damaged in recent storms. They were working on cutting up fallen trees and hopefully will be able to restore the artwork. The Inn at Honey Run is a beautiful place with a variety of accommodations including the Honeycombs which is a complex of rooms built into the earth and surrounded by stone.

I was able to enjoy a refreshing cup of fresh mint garden sweet tea. There is a small garden between the tiny homes that has mint plants. The recipe was in the manual that they leave for you. I was so refreshing!

Fresh Mint Garden Sweet Tea

  • 1 large handful of fresh mint sprigs (include leaves and stems)

  • 8 cups water

  • Sweetener of choice

Gather a very large handful of fresh mint leaves. Cut the mint about 2 inches from the ground. It will grow again! Rinse the freshly picked mint with water. Boil 8 cups of water. Add the mint leaves and stems in the boiled water. Allow to steep for 10-15 minutes. Remove the leaves from the water. Add your sweetener of choice and stir well to combine. This will make a concentrate. 1:1 ratio of concentrate and water. Serve over ice and enjoy!

Thank you to Kevin & Liz for the wonderful stay at The Scandi and the delicious homemade chocolate chip cookies!
